When do we, as CAD/CAM clinicians, choose a zirconia material over a lithium disilicate material in our clinical theaters?  This CEREC case review video is an overview when making a decision on when to use zirconia and the steps for efficient Primescan Software design.

Materials and applications in this video:

  • ZirCAD Multi
  • ZirCAD LT
  • Zirconia furnace indications (SpeedFire, CS4, Programat S1)
  • Posterior Primescan CEREC software design flow (paralleling design flow for Omnicam most recent software)

There are several steps when working through the Acquisition Screen that will assure ideally mounted virtual models and save clinical time through the model and design phase screens.  This video will walk through the steps I use on a routine basis in my clinical theater for managing my Primescan Acquisition phase.  This is the same workflow used for Omnicam last few software versions (4.52 and 4.61).

Part one video in BioJaw anterior design series. The way I save time in my anterior design theater is to go into the case preplanned with a wax-up which I now do in inLab, print the model and use the wax-up as a reduction guide and basis for making provisionals when needed.  Time-saving comes from certain preparation reduction protocols for the case and then propose and refine with BioJaw, still using a BioCopy component to guide the BioJaw placement.  One thing unique to this case review is the strategy used to block out a dark root.

The Manufacture Phase Screen has the same setup features as in the prior CEREC 4.61 screen.  Occlusal Offset is the significant factor in this screen and getting it right on to avoid adjusting occlusion on the milled seated restorations.  Milling speed and bur size are chosen by material and margin thickness objectives for the case.

Even with a fully automated model screen, there are four checks I use before proposing to assure restorative fit.  This video will share my model screen hacks to save the day.  CEREC 4.61 and 5.0 software versions are the same, just different graphics interphase.  The principles of this video apply to the 4.61 software version as well.

Due to conflicting schedules, I will not be able to make it to Dentsply Sirona World 2018.  If I were there, one of my topics would be mounting a full upper and lower arch digital scan with a bilateral buccal scan in the chairside CEREC software.  I use this approach often for appliance printed applications.

It is so important to completely listen to our patients when they talk.  This video case review documents how the patient was right and I was wrong after 30 years.  Thanks to chairside CAD/CAM and multi-Empress, I was finally able to get it right. Biogeneric Variation is the first tool I use in my posterior design steps.  I call it my “Secret Design Weapon” . The scaled alterations provide morphological “fingerprinting” for both posterior and anterior virtual design alternatives.  If you have not used this tool yet, try it.  It is profound!  View Video

Some of you are starting to receive the 4.50 software update.  Make sure to update to the latest patch 4.51.  If you have one of the latest towers, your system should perform well with this CEREC software update.  If not, the system may need a few hardware tweaks until it is operating well with this version of the software.  One of my most appreciated assets in the 4.5+ software is margin clarity.  Has been significantly improved and easier to identify the margins.  The linked video will demonstrate the latest in finding and drawing margins.  I call it the emotional restorative peace factor.  Margins are one of my things that make my day
